Welcome back to Blush & Camo! Today I’m sharing what style prepping is and how you can do this for an entire week’s worth of work outfits. Think of style prepping like food prep- except we are preparing our looks not our meals! There is nothing more annoying then waking up in the morning and not making up your mind on what you want to wear. I am always looking for ways to be more efficient in my life so I have more time for the things that truly matter such as spending time with Chuck or spending time on my blog.

Are you ready for my top tips for style prepping? Let’s dive into it!

CREATE YOUR UNIFORM

My first tip for you which will make style prepping even easier is to create your “style uniform.” Maybe this is my military background creeping in, but when you have a go-to look you are able vary from day to day this makes putting your outfits together even faster! This is because you don’t have to think too hard about what your look is going to be- you simply select your uniform and go!

For example, I have two pairs of shoes I know I can wear with any work outfit. My first pair of shoes are Chloe flats, and these are for more casual work days. My second pair of shoes are a pair of neutral hued kitten heels and these are for when I have a bunch of meetings scheduled and I want to put my best foot forward. So, on the more casual days I grab my Chloe flats and on days when I meet with clients I wear my kitten heels. No thinking necessary because I did all the thinking of what two shoes I wanted prior to purchasing the shoes!

I use this same mentality when it comes to my work bottoms and tops as well. I already picked out 10 pieces for fall I plan on wearing to work and these pieces create my capsule collection. All my accessories or jackets can interchange with these pieces.

These items are:

  • 2 x pair of pants
  • 2 x dresses
  • 4 x tops
  • 2 x blazers

Now, when I head to work I can create multiple combinations of outfits with these items without having to take time out of my day to think too much about it.

When you’ve nailed this tip down you’ve almost mastered style prepping!

PICK YOUR HUE

When style prepping or putting together your capsule collection you want to pick items that are within the same color group, or match well with one another.

For example, my work wardrobe is very neutral with camel, navy, and gray hues sprinkled throughout. Sometimes I will add a pop of color with a printed blouse, but for the most part my uniform “capsule collection” is filled with neutral hues I can easily interchange and style multiple looks with throughout the week!

If you are not a neutral hues type of girl, look for bold colors that mix well with one another. A great rule of thumb is to have your colors stay in the warm color family (orange, yellow, reds) or in the cool color family (green, blue, purple). This way it’s easier to interchange your looks!

DON’T OVERTHINK IT

This may seem like a very obvious tip, but when putting your outfits together for work and styling them- don’t overthink it. You want to be comfortable and confident so wear what you gravitate towards styling. Chances are if you created a capsule collection and have these colors in complimentary hues you can’t go wrong with whatever look you put together! Simply wear what you grab and go conquer the day!
