Five Things To Help You Fight Blogger’s Block

Hello, Gorgeous! Today I’m sharing with you ladies how to fix the dreaded blogger’s block! This is when you feel totally uninspired and can’t seem to write a single blog post or post on social media. The blogging world is fast paced and constantly moving, so no one wants to have a lull in their blog/brand they are trying to grow.

During my time as a fashion blogger I’ve read some posts on how to identify if you had blogger’s block, or what to do when you got stuck in a creative rut. When I read these posts I remember thinking, “How can you get into a creative rut when there is creativity all around me?!”. I didn’t understand how someone could just simply not find inspiration with all the material and Insta photos available at the touch of a iPhone screen!

Then, I moved to South Carolina and it was a tough transition for me. I absolutely loved Seattle, and didn’t want to move (even though I knew when I moved to Seattle I wouldn’t be staying forever. #ArmyProbs). When I moved from Seattle to Columbia, SC I wasn’t in my normal blogging routine and after about a week felt totally uninspired. I couldn’t write a blog post (or find anything I thought worth writing about!), I didn’t really want to post to social media, and I just couldn’t snap myself back into my #GirlBoss blogging self! I was completely and utterly having a blogger’s block!

I talked to a few of my close blogger babe friends about blogging and what I should do. Their advice was amazing and I took all of it to heart and formed my own plan for how to get back into the swing of things and start blogging again (you ladies deserve my 110% best effort!).

I would say I struggled with my blogger’s block for about two months. As I am writing this post I am slowly transitioning out the of the block (This was a huge creative slump for me and it’s been a process to get back into the swing of things!). Since I know that I am not the only blogger babe to go through a blogger’s block I wanted to share all my tips with you Blush Babes in the hopes that this post will help you as much as these tips helped me!

TAKE A BREAK FROM BLOGGING AND SOCIAL MEDIA

I’ve stated this in other blog posts about fashion blogging, but sometimes it’s good to simply take a break from social media all together. The amount of time you spend away from your phone is entirely up to you and what is best for your lifestyle. Taking a break from social media is so important because it allows you to focus on everyday relationships versus your social media “virtual life”.

During my bloggers block I went through a two week period where I would post on social media, but I wasn’t spending tons of time engaged on it. This was my version of a break from social media. This means I didn’t really answer every single comment that was left on my photos and I wasn’t actively engaged on other women’s social media. It killed me to not answer all the comments that women took the time to leave but my focus was on trying to get a handle on my new city, talking with Chuck on the phone, and adjusting to my new job.

This break really helped allow me to relax and focus on family verses my social media presence, AND I found that slowly but surely, my inspiration was coming back!

THEN, CUT BACK ON SOCIAL MEDIA

One of the many reasons why I ran into a blogger’s block is because I was spending too much time on social media and not enough time really going out and enjoying things that I like to do in my free time. I cut back on the time I spent on social media by almost 75% and while I may not get to comment on every single picture that you gorgeous ladies post (I truly try to comment on as many pictures as possible!) I find that the time away from social media really helped to get my blogging inspo back on track!

I am starting to amp up the time I spend on social media, but I don’t think I will ever go back to the hours and hours a day I was spending on it before. I also noticed that there was a small decline in my social media engagement, which I totally expected, but the growth was the same.

So ladies, if you are ever feel like you need to cut back on social media (gasp! I feel like it’s taboo to talk about this) I say go for it because you are taking care of yourself and your social media growth will still be there- oh, and you’re still a total #GirlBoss because nothing’s changing that!

TALK WITH BLOGGER BABES AND FIND INSPO FROM THEM

During my blogger’s block I took time to communicate with my blogger babes! I love connecting with women in the blogging community and feel like it is a tight knit group of women.

I shared with a few of my blogger besties what I was going through and these ladies helped TREMENDOUSLY by sharing their stories of blogger’s block, positive messages of encouragement, and also tips that helped get them through their creative slump!

Communicating with women who are in your niche really helps give perspective to what you are experiencing and provides inspiration to continue to push through your creative block! So reach out to your favorite blogger or a blogger who you are already #besties with. Sharing ideas, inspiration, and blogging techniques is a great way to get out of a creative slump!

I want to give a massive thank you to two of my blogger besties; Annie from The Lovely Girl and Kait from Basking in Burgundy who gave me tons of amazing advice, listened to my struggles, and where always there to support me through this block.

REMEMBER WHY YOU STARTED TO BLOG IN THE FIRST PLACE

When you’ve been blogging for awhile sometimes it can get difficult to balance working full time, raising a family, and blogging (oh, and I’m sure you’re juggling a dozen more hats!). What started off as a fun hobby has quickly turned into (another!) full time job filled with budgeting, reading contracts, and working with brands.

Whenever you feel overwhelmed by blogging remember why you started your blog in the first place:). This simple exercise may surprise you with how much it can help get your creative juices flowing again. You stop thinking about all the contracts, budgeting, and IT issues and start focusing on everything that is amazing about being in this community!

For me, I started my blog because I wanted to help women look and feel their most confident. I have been blogging for almost two years and my goal is still the same. To help other women feel their best! I would love for you to share why you started a blog in the comments below!

EMAIL A COMAPANY THAT YOU HAVE ALWAYS WANTED TO WORK WITH

Last, but not least, email a company (or companies) you have been dying to work with! Sometimes we, as bloggers, are our own worst critic. Emailing a few companies that you truly want to work with will help give you the inspiration you need to start focusing on a fun collab for the future!

What did you think of today’s post? I would love to chat with you in the comments below! Follow me along on InstagramPinterest, and Facebook for daily style inspo!

Thank you SO much for stopping by Blush & Camo!

xx Julianna

  1. Loved this post! These past fews months I’ve had so much going on at once that my blog and social media definitely took a backseat, and I always felt bad. But I think it’s so true how you said taking a break isn’t a bad thing, because it gives you time to focus on living your real life in the moment – and when you come back you’re probably more motivated and eager to be better!
