Welcome back to Blush & Camo! This past weekend I flew to NYC to visit my husband Chuck. He is currently doing a field training exercise just outside of the city for about 4.5 months and this is the only weekend I was able to see him! I was super excited about flying out to NYC and we PACKED so many touristy events into just over 48 hours together in the city. On average I walked 10 miles per day (which is insane!). Here is a list of all the places Chuck and I went to during our quick visit to the city:
- Visited the Freedom Building and the 9/11 Memorial
- Walked along the High Line Park
- Visited Dumbo, Brooklyn
- Walked onto the Brooklyn Bridge
- Went to Wall Street
- Visited Tribeca and did some shopping
- Went to the East Village and hunted for murals
- Ate at the Flatiron Cafe (and got pictures taken there!)
- Ordered my first Matcha drink at Cha Cha Matcha
- Walked all around Times Square and took in all the lights
- Went to the Union Square Greenmarket
Whew! I’m tired just looking at this list! If you’re in NYC for a short period of time and are looking for places to visit here are my top four must have places to visit (so you don’t have to walk 10 miles a day)!
TIMES SQUARE
If you have never been to NYC before you have to stop by Times Square and take in all the lights, food trucks, and do a little people watching. This place, no matter what time of the day, is usually packed! No matter how many times I go to NYC I always make it a point to stop by Times Square because I just love the lights and craziness.
EAST VILLAGE
If you are a blogger or someone who loves murals this is the place for you to go! There are SO many murals for you to take pictures of to include a park that is lined with murals. This is located in First Park in East Village in-between 1st and 2nd Avenue! When you walk around East Village you are bound to find some amazing places to shoot due to all the colorful buildings, murals, and art found in and around this part of the city! I promise, this part of town is a bloggers dream:).
HIGH LINE PARK
The High Line is a beautiful park that is 1.45 miles long. This park was created on a former New York Central Railroad on the west side of Manhattan in New York City. I CAN’T RECOMMEND THIS ENOUGH! This was the highlight of my entire trip with Chuck. The park gives you breathtaking views of the city and you can leisurely stroll stopping to take pictures, sit on the many park benches, and there are even places to sit to view the skyline at night. There are even places to buy ice cream along the trail!
I recommend going right as the sun is setting because it’s not super crowded and it can be very romantic!
DUMBO, BROOKLYN
While this is not in the heart of the city, Dumbo, Brooklyn is a quick subway ride and easy to get to. You can take the F train from Manhattan and get off at the Jay St. stop. Walk over to Washington Street, and as soon as you get to the street you will see the bridge! If you are a Gossip Girl fan you will recognize Washington Street because this is the street they showed when transitioning into Dan’s story of the show!
There are also some amazing restaurants to eat at with sweeping views of Manhattan and a pier where I got some yummy ice cream! DUMBO is where Chuck and I took all of our pictures together during our time in the city.
AN EXTRA STOP…. CHA CHA MATCHA!
To get some energy during your quick visit to NYC I highly recommend stopping by Cha Cha Matcha for a pick me up in the middle of the day, or even to start your day off right! There are tons of these cafe’s around the city so pull out your Google maps to check for your nearest one while visiting all these amazing sites in the city!
According to Cha Cha Matcha’s website:
“Matcha, at its simplest, is finely milled Japanese green tea leaves, traditionally prepped with hot water into a frothy, whipped beverage. This ancient Japanese drink has over 100-times the antioxidants of regular brewed tea and is naturally one of the most antioxidant-dense foods on the planet. It’s a lot more than an ancient green powder.”
I am a huge coffee drinker, and was skeptical of matcha, but when I ordered my first matcha latte I was hooked! I would drink this every morning if I could! I can’t recommend trying this enough!
What did you think of today’s post?! I would love to hear your comments down below! Thank you for stopping by Blush & Camo!
