Welcome back to Blush & Camo! Today I’m very excited to share with you my much anticipated hair extensions review. I’ve gotten so many questions about my extensions so I’m breaking down my post into two parts. The first part I will talk about the process of putting the extensions in, and the second part will answer all your questions about what I think, how I style them, and the after care of getting extensions put in.
First, here are the before and after photos of my extensions!
BEFORE
AFTER
Aren’t the results amazing?! The woman who did my hair is DaNae and you can find her, and her work, on Instagram by clicking here! DaNae can put the extensions in your hair either at the salon or by coming over to your house (heck, yes!). Before DaNae came over to my house to put in the extensions I went to her salon, called The Village Salon Nash, in Nashville and had my consultation. Here are images of what the Village Salon looks like:
In this consultation you talk about how you want your hair to look with the extensions in. There are three options for your hair. You can opt for length, volume, or both. Obviously the most expensive option is to get both volume and length since that will require the most about of hair.
My vision for my hair was to get mermaid hair- so I was going for length, not volume. After getting out of the Army and wearing my hair in a bun sometimes up to seven days a week, I knew I wanted long mermaid inspired hair. This was my treat to myself to successfully completing 9 years in the military!
DaNae decided we should order four bundles of hair and if we didn’t use all the bundles she would only charge me for the bundles we did end up using.
DaNae also decided to use two colors of extensions in my hair. Even though my hair is super blonde, there were still some low lights throughout so half of the hair we ordered was a low light and the other half was a brighter shade of blonde. When put together I could not tell the difference in color from my own hair from the extensions hair!
PUTTING IN THE EXTENSIONS
The day of getting my extensions put in I was a little nervous. What if I didn’t like them? What if my head hurt from all the hair getting put on it? What if the extensions damaged my hair?
All these questions were going through my mind! As soon as DaNae showed up she put my mind at ease about the whole process. Here are some fun facts about my extensions!
- The brand DaNae uses is called Great Lengths. This brand follows ethical practices in the hair extension industry, but also has a keratin bond that attached to your hair. This means the bond will not damage your existing hair because keratin in a protein used to strengthen hair!
- Great Lengths also uses a machine that uses friction, not heat, to apply the keratin bond to your hair. This process also doesn’t damage your hair. In fact, many women get Great Length extensions in order to grow their hair out because of how gentle the process is!
When DaNae first came over she explained the whole process to me and then started laying out all the hair. It was a very simple set up and didn’t take much time at all. DaNae is very experienced at putting in hair extensions, and has gone to various trainings to get certified, to stay the most up to date on the best ways to apply hair extensions!
The whole process took about three hours.
Here is a picture of what the bonds look like!
After the extensions were put in my scalp felt a little tight, but after a few hours I got used to the extensions and there wasn’t any tightness anymore.
MOST FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Getting the extensions put in was pretty simple (at least for me! DaNae did all the hard work!). After my Great Length extensions were put in I got a lot of questions for you all and so the second part of this post is going to be answering some of those!
#1.) Can you wash your hair and style your hair the same way?
There is no difference to how you wash your hair, but you want to ensure with your extensions to use a sulfate free shampoo. This way it doesn’t hurt the bonds in your hair. As for styling, I used to flip my hair upside down when I was blow drying it, but with extensions that is discourage. I don’t blow dry my hair anymore and let my hair air dry. I actually love doing this because not only does this save heat going on my hair, but the Great Length extensions have a natural wave to them so when you let your extensions hair dry it looks like you just got back from the beach (no product necessary!).
#2.) How do you sleep with you extensions?
There is not special way you have to sleep with extensions. The only difference is that you want to have your hair in a braid, or in a low ponytail before your go to sleep so the bonds don’t get tangled.
#3.) Are you able to curl your hair?
Yes, I am absolutely allowed to curl my hair or use a straightener. When curling or straightening your hair you want to be careful to put any heat on your bonds because this could ruin them!
#4.) Do you love your hair extensions?
YES! I absolutely love them and the way they make me feel. Danae warned they were addicting and I have to agree with her! I’m so happy I went through the process of getting extensions put in!
#5.) How do I get in touch with Danae?
DaNae is currently taking on new clients, but she books up quickly because she’s that good! Head over to her Insta and send her a DM clicking here , or call her salon at 615.562.2155 to book your appointment!
Thank you so much for stopping by Blush & Camo and I can’t wait to share another post with all the ways you can style your extensions!

Is your hair breaking off when it comes out?
Hi Jennifer,
The bonds are made out of keratin that help your hair and actually really help grow your hair out:).

Your hair is gorgeous….with and without extensions! How long can you leave them in?
Thank you so much Dawn! I currently am using a new brand of hair extensions called Hot Heads and they are tape-ins! The hair will last up to nine months:). I go in every 8-9 weeks to get the extensions re-taped and put in!
Hope this helps!
xx, J
