Hello, Blush Babes! If you think you read the heading wrong you totally didn’t. You can create your dream Valentine’s Day outfit in just 5 simple steps by shopping your closet! The best part?! It won’t cost you a dime!
I love taking advantage of these holidays and style an outfit that really makes a statement! The only problem is these holidays are back to back and your bank account may still be recovering from Christmas. Maybe, (dare I say it!) you’re even thinking that you can’t have an all out glamorous look for Valentine’s Day because your on a serious #budget this month.
Don’t worry, Gorgeous, I’ve got you covered.
Today I’m sharing how to create an amazing Valentine’s Day look by shopping your own closet. Yes, your own closet:). You’re just a few style tips away!
1.FIND YOUR ADJECTIVE (or two)
When thinking of a Valentine’s Day outfit think of an adjective or two to describe how you want to look! Maybe one of the words you would include are feminine, sweet, sexy, glamorous, etc! This is the “starting big” style step and is important because all the items you choose from your closet will incorporate your adjectives to ensure you look the way you want to feel!
Plus, shopping your closet may seem overwhelming at first so narrowing down what you’re looking for is important for making this experience simple!
2.CHOOSE YOUR FOCAL POINT
There are SO many clothing items in your closet! In order to narrow down all those options think about what your focal point of the entire look will be and use your adjective to describe it. Are you wanting to wear a feminine dress? Or maybe, it’s a sexy jumpsuit. There are no right or wrong answers to this step- it’s all based on your personal style!
3.NO SEASONS ARE OFF LIMITS
When you are shopping your closet, I’m not just talking about your winter selection of clothes. I’m talking everything (insert emoji praise hands here!).
But why would I say this?!
The reason is because with a summer dress you can add a jacket or sweater over top and belt it to make the dress a skirt (I totally did this here. Check it out!). Or, maybe you have a romper that would be perfect for Valentine’s Day so all you need are a pair of tights and a pair of booties to go with!
When you take a look at all your clothes, you’ll be amazed to see what seasonal clothes you can combine to create a gorgeous Valentine’s Day look!
4.DON’T FOCUS ON RED AND PINK
It is a common misconception that you have to wear red and pink on Valentine’s Day, but I promise it is not a requirement! Holidays are an opportunity to rock bold colors and there are no right or wrong answers.
Chances are, if you don’t have these colors in your closet already it probably means you don’t particularly care for them- so why pay for something that you might only wear once?! Instead take a look at your closet for a bold color you DO have and create an outfit from that hue! (I just happen to own a lot of pink!)
5.LOOK FOR FEMININE FABRICS
So maybe you aren’t a color girl and gravitate toward more subtle hues. If this is you take a look at all the fabrics in your closet. Do you have anything in lace, chiffon, or tulle?! These are considered feminine fabrics and embody the vibe of Valentine’s Day.
Choose a a piece or two to start creating a soft and romantic Valentine’s Day inspired look!
6.ACCESSORIES CREATE A WHOLE NEW OUTFIT
If you have a dress or outfit already picked out that is perfect for Valentine’s Day but are totally sick of wearing that look this step is for you! Accessorizing can COMPLETELY change the overall look of an outfit. I usually fall into this category.
For this look I wanted to add a belt, but I didn’t own one that would match, so I used ribbon to tie around my waist!
Take a look at all the accessories and shoes you own. I typically will take accessories I would never pair together and start playing with different looks. Here are a few options you can use to start think about accessorizing in a different way:
- Pair an edgy pair of boots (like these) with a feminine dress for a totally different, and unexpected look.
- Pull out that bauble necklace you haven’t worn in forever and pair it with your outfit (or layer two together!).
- Try a new technique for painting your nails (like a marble look, or a simple stripe across your nail) for your V-Day look!
- Layer dainty jewellery for a chic, but classy look.
The possibilities are endless, but you get where I am going with this:)!
