Hello, Gorgeous! Thank you so much or stopping by the blog because today I’m sharing with you how to remain unbiased when shopping for clothes. I’ve done a few blog posts about how to buy designer pieces on a budget, when you know you’re ready to splurge on a designer piece, and even launched a FREE style guide on how to build your dream wardrobe with style tips for buying pricer items.

Designer pieces are fabulous, we all know that, but it’s also not realistic to fill you closet with pricey designer pieces for every occasion- especially when there are SO MANY amazing wardrobe essentials and trendier items totally within budget and ready to be snatched up by us fashionistas. And… many of these items don’t even have a label (gasp!). Honestly, the pieces without the label are some of my favorite because there is a unique story attached to how you found those items and it makes them that more special.

Today’s post is about how to remain totally unbiased when shopping for your wardrobe!

Want to know a little secret before we dive into this whole post?! The OTK boots I always wear during fall and seen here and here this season are from Charlotte Russe and where under $50! Charlotte Russe is one of my favorite places for buying extremely comfortable shoes on a budget and they are pretty good quality considering what you’re paying. My OTK boots have lasted me two seasons and there are no signs of wear or tear (not even a thread is out of place!).

Have I got your attention yet?! Let’s elevate your style- and save you some money in the process!

HOW TO REMAIN UNBAIS WHEN SHOPPING

STOP LOOKING AT THE BRAND

For the longest time I thought that the label you wore was more important than the person wearing the clothes. Nothing could be further from the truth. Ladies, it doesn’t matter if the clothing you are wearing is from Goodwill or Chanel. Rock the $%^& out of your look with  confidence and no one is going to know the difference!

My biggest style tip in this whole post is to be to stop looking at labels or designers when shopping for clothes. When you stop doing this you are allowing yourself to find clothing inspiration and wardrobe pieces, quite literally, anywhere.

For example, I shop/browse the Costco clothing section and have even bought a few pieces from there. Do you know why? Because I don’t care that I own clothing from Costco and the price is phenomenal. Click here to see how I styled a cape from Costco last year!

When you stop worrying so much about the label and focus more on the clothing item yourself you’ll start to find more creative places to shop and buy unique pieces for your wardrobe.

NEVER UNDERESTIMATE THE POWER OF THRIFTING

I don’t go thrifting very often, but when I do it’s always a blast. Thrifting allows you to find “gold” and add a little piece of treasure to your wardrobe that you wouldn’t be able to find if you were focused on the mainstream places to shop.

For example, when Chuck and I were on our honeymoon we were wandering the streets of Nice and came across this thrift shop. I picked up a dress of the hanger (the exact dress worn in today’s post!) and quickly realized I had stumbled upon an Isabel Marant dress at a crazy ridiculous price. I also found a Valentino dress at a price tag where I didn’t want to fall over from sticker shock. The owner told me her store was a consignment store and that’s why everything was crazy affordable.

CREATE A TRIP TO GO SHOPPING AT UNEXPECTED PLACES

I created this style tip accidentally, but have started to use this tip more and more frequently because it makes shopping so much more fun. One weekend when my sister was in college I was visiting her and she wanted to go shopping. I was unfamiliar with the area and Maya was on a serious #budget so she took me to stores I had never heard of but it created a very fun shopping trip experience and I found items that I would never have in my closet right now if not for that shopping trip.

Take a moment and think about some stores in your area you have never shopped at. Maybe you’ve never shopped at these stores because of a little bias you may have towards them or maybe because you’ve never gone into them before because they may be out of your comfort zone.

Create a list of at least four stores, invite a girlfriend, and take a few hours one afternoon to go shopping! You’ll be surprised how many items you’ll love or that surprise you with how cute they are!
